Garber Privately Tells Faculty That Harvard Must Rethink Messaging After GOP Victory
The University baseball team wound up its preliminary season by downing a stubborn Tufts nine 5 to 4 at Medford on Saturday.
The Harvard batters finally found a vulnerable south paw in Smith, the lefthander who started on the mound for the Jumbos. Smith was sent to the showers after the Crimson players had touched him eight hits and five runs in the first four frames. Bowker and Kennedy followed to the rubber, and although the University nine still hit, no runners crossed the plate.
Cutts Hit Frequently
The losers hit F. B. Cutts '28 frequently, in all for ten bingles, but were not quite able to make up the margin between their total and the Crimson score. Cutts kept the game from going into an extra inning in the ninth by a smart play. Phillips had opened the frame with a single and came home when R. C. Sullivan '28 bungled Ellis' grounder. As H. W. Burns '28 started his throw to the plate in a futile effort to catch Phillips, Ellis started for second. Cutts cut off the throw-in and picked Ellis off at the second bag, ending the Tufts rooters hopes for an extra inning.
The entire University squad will leave today for the Choate School, in Walling-ford, Conn., where it will spend the night before the Yale series opener tomorrow away from the Yale Commencement crowds. * Batted for Hardie in sixth. ** Batted for Bowker in eighth.
