CINDERS WILL BE HEAVILY POUNDED

The cinder track on Soldiers Field will see heavy duty this weekend, when it will bear the brunt of the annual University handicap track meet and the annual Harvard interscholastic track games, to be run off this afternoon and tomorrow.

An announcement made yesterday at the H. A. A. states that a cup in honor of Coach W. F. "Pooch" Donovan will be given the winner of the discus throw in the handicap meet.

Thirty-six schools with a total representation of 468 schoolboys are registered to compete in the interscholastic meet tomorrow afternoon. This is an increase of over 100 individuals over the number of men who participated in these games last year. Judging from their records so far this spring, Andover, Brookline High School, Exeter, Worcester, and Milton Academy look like strong competitors for the honors in the 14 events to be contested. Of the 42 meets held yearly since 1886, Andover has tallied the most victories, with 13 to its credit, and Exeter, with 12, comes in a close second.

In 1886, the first year of the interscholastic games, only three schools competed. The events were run off at Southborough, St. Mark's Schol being the meet host. Among the events listed in this meet were the tug-of-war, throwing the baseball, and the one mile walk. The winner of the 100-yard dash tore down the cinders to break the tape in 10 4-5 seconds, only 4-5 of a second more than the present interscholastic record.

A trophy, in most cases a silver loving cup, will be awarded the winner of each of the 15 events in the University handicap meet held this afternoon and tomorrow. The donors of 14 of the cups were named in a recent issue of the CRIMSON. The fifteenth will be donated to the winner of the discus throw by a group of graduates in honor of Coach Donovan and will bear the names of the Harvard trainer and sprinting coach.

The trials of the handicap meet will be run off this afternoon as follows: at 4 o'clock, 120-yard high hurdles, shot put, and javelin throw: at 4.10 o'clock, 100- yard dash; at 4.20 o'clock, 220-yard low hurdles; at 4.30 o'clock, 220-yard dash, broad jump, hammer throw, and discus throw.

The finals will take place tomorrow afternoon as follows: at 1.30 o'clock, one mile run, high jump, pole vault, shot put, and javelin throw; at 1.40 o'clock, 440-yard run; at 1.50 o'clock, 120-yard high hurdles; at 2 o'clock, 100-yard dash; at 2.10 o'clock, two mile run; at 2.20 o'clock, 880-yard run; at 2.30 o'clock, 220-yard low hurdles; at 2.40 o'clock, 220-yard dash; at 2.15 o'clock, broad jump, hammer throw, and discus throw
