Strong Eli Net Team Downs Crimson First Year Men, 7 to 2--Harvard Wins Two Doubles Matches

New Haven, Conn., May 30--The Yale freshman tennis team overwhelmed the Harvard first year net team here this afternoon, winning 7 to 2.

Luce, former Andover four-letterman and tennis captain who played No. 1 on the Eli first year team, won from Breese, leading player of the Crimson Freshmen in straight sets.

The only Harvard victories came in the doubles, when Green and Upton won from Ryan and Sturtevant, and Breese paired with Phipps to down Luce and Weiner.

The summary follows:

Singles--Luce (Y) defeated Breese (H), 6-3, 6-4; Ryan (Y)defeated Phipps (H), 6-3, 6-4; Weiner (Y) defeated Upton (H), 6-4, 6-1; Holloway (Y) defeated Tower (H), 8-6, 6-3; Rittenberg (Y) defeated Green (H), 6-2, 6-4; Saurtevant (Y) defeated Evans (H), 9-7, 6-3.

Doubles--Breese and Phipps (H) defeated Luce and Weiner (Y), 6-0, 6-3; Green and Upton (H) defeated Ryan and Sturtevant (Y), 6-4, 5-7, 6-4; Holloway and Baldwin (Y) defeated Tower and Evans (H), 8-6, 6-3.
