NET TEAM LOSES CLOSE MATCH TO PENN BY 5 TO 4

After losing four out of six singles matches at the Philadelphia Country Club on Saturday, the strong Penn tennis team rallied to defeat Harvard in all three doubles and take the match by 5 to 4.

J. L. Ware '30, a new man on the University team, turned in a creditable performance by defeating Kardon of Pennsylvania, 6-2, 5-7, 6-2.

The summary:

Singles--Lavine (P) defeated Captain B. H. Whitbeck '29, 4-6, 6-0, 6-2; M. T. Hill '30 defeated Hofkin (P), 6-4, 7-5, Arthur Ingraham '30 defeated Stanger (P), 6-4, 6-4; Simons (P) defeated E. B. Ward '30, 6-1, 6-2, J. H. Appleton '29 defeated Kraft (P), 3-6, 6-1, 6-4; J. L. Ware '30 defeated Kardon (P), 6-2, 5-7, 6-2.

Doubles--Lavine and Simons (P) defeated Hill and F. K. Trask '30, 8-6, 3-6, 6-2; Hofkin and Kraft (P) defeated Whitbeck and Ware, 4-6, 7-5, 6-2; Stanger and Kardon (P) defeated Ingraham and C. R. Hamlen '30, 7-5, 6-4.

Match With Williams Today

Weather permitting, the University team will meet the Williams netmen this afternoon at 2 o'clock on Jarvis Field. This match was scheduled for tomorrow, but the time has been advanced for the convenience of the Purple team.

The Williamstown aggregation is a strong one, having clinched most of its matches to date this spring.

The University lineup will be as follows:
