STRONG CRUSADER TEAM WINS, 8 TO 5

Barbee Allows Seven Safeties Before Yielding Mound to Cutts--Double by Prior Scores Two Crimson Runs

One of the strongset Holy Cross nines in years sent the Harvard baseball team down to its first defeat at the hands of a college aggregation this season. The final score of yesterday's contest was 8 to 5.

The Crimson scored in the opening inning when a double by John Prior '29 sent J. P. Chase '28 and W. W. Lord '28 across the plate. In the next three frames, however, a barrage of hits off the Crusaders' bats put the Purple in the lead with six tallies. A sixth inning rally by the Harvard nine netted three more runs, but Holy Cross clinched the contest with a brace of counters in the seventh.

J. N. Barbee '28, on the mound for Harvard during the first two and one third innings, lost his first game this season. The heavy-hitting Crusaders touched him for seven safeties, while he fanned three. F. B. Cutts '28, who pitched the rest of the game, turned in a creditable performance for a cold day, allowing only four safeties. HOLY CROSS   ab  r.  h.  p.o.  a.  e.
