Garber Privately Tells Faculty That Harvard Must Rethink Messaging After GOP Victory
The University nine turned in its sixth victory of the season yesterday afternoon by defeating Maine University 10 to 1. Wintry breezes and gray skies did their share to promote spotty baseball. All kinds of baseball were in evidence, from the three double plays beautifully executed by the Crimson infield to some very shoddy errors and miscues from the same source.
Willard Howard '28, on the mound for the winning team, pitched a fine game, allowing only seven hits. The Crimson twirler kept the opposing batters well under control, except for a brief lapse in the eighth, when a single and two walks filled the bases. J. P. Chase '28 mishandled a grounder and let Westcott trot across the plate to score Maine's lone tally.
Captain H. W. Burns '28 led his team at bat and raised his own average to a point well over 400 by bagging a double and two singles in five trips to the plate. W. S. Hardie '30 clouted out a triple in the seventh, with one man on base.
F. E. Nugent '30 was sent into the game at short stop in the seventh frame, and G. E. Donaghy '29 was shifted to third, replacing A. G. Whitney '29. This combination turned out extraordinarily well. Nugent seems to have a flair for double plays, for the Sophomore player started two and served as pivot in a third in the last three innings.
Two base hits--Burns, Chase. Three base hit--Hardie. Stolen bases--Burns, Whitney, Westcott. Sacrifice hits--Chase, Howard, Lord, Westcott. Struck out--by Howard, 5. Umpires--Morey and Stafford. Time--1:42.
