With the picking of the first two boats on the University crew squad at the beginning of this week the Harvard oarsmen have started their serious drive for the later season races. Although these two crews are by no means permanent these eights will give Coach E. J. Brown '96 two crews on which to concentrate his attention in preparing for the first race of the season with M. I. T. on May 5.
Yesterday afternoon the first two combinations paddled up to the second bridge and back with short brushes on the way up. No. 4 on crew B, which was left open in the first announcement of the two crews was filled by A. T. Gray '30, who will row in that position from now on.
The changed lineup for the two crews as they rowed yesterday follows:
Crew A. Stroke, John Watts '28; 7, Guy Murchie '29; 6, F. A. Clark '29; 5, W. G. Saltonstall '28; 4, C. E. Mason '30; 3. W. T. Emmet '29; 2, J. deW. Hubbard '29; bow, L. W. Dickey '30; cox., L. L. Wadsworth '30.
Crew B. Stroke, James Lawrence '29; 7, M. R. Brownell '30; 6, A. A. Campbell '30; 5, B. J. Barrison '29; 4, A. T. Gray '30; 3. Allerton Cushman '29; 2, C. McK. Norton '29; bow, D. S. M. Lanier '29; cox, C. G. Chase '30.
