BASEBALL TEAM TO TREK SOUTHWARD

Daily Workouts in Briggs Cage Are Being Rushed--Early Vacation Cuts Practice Time

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

The baseball team will start on its annual spring trip southward on Sunday, April 8, it was announced last night at the Harvard Athletic Association. At the same time plans for the next two and one half weeks of practice were divulged.

The daily workouts in the Briggs indoor cage are being rushed because of the early vacation this year. In former years the team has usually had at least a week more time to develop before it went on the spring trip. There will be a game with Boston University on April 7, one day before their departure. The itinerary of the trip is as follows:

Sunday, April 8, leave Cambridge; April 9 and 10, two games with the University of Virginia; April 11, University of Richmond at Richmond; April 12, the Quantico marines at Quantico Naval Base; April 13, Georgetown at Washington; April 14, the final game with West Point at West Point.

The first cut of the season will take place shortly after the team is able to get outdoors, probably at the end of next week. It is expected that about 20 men will be retained. These players will go on the trip.

Last year's squad is complete except for the veteran pitcher Willard Howard '28, who is expected to report in a few days. G. E. Donaghy '29 and R. C. Sullivan '28 are both temporarily out with injuries.

The University nine is rapidly assuminb shape. W. W. Lord '28, who in the last two years has already been moved from two positions, appears to have solved the problem of a catcher. J. P. Chase '28, although he has only been out several days, seems to fill the second base berth. As outfield practice will be impossible until the team gets outdoors, Captain H. W. Burns '28 is playing at shortstop.

The pitchers are especially strong this year. F. B. Cutts '28, J. N. Barbee '28, R. R. Ketchum '29, and Howard Whitmore '29 have been showing a good deal of stuff in the indoor workouts.
