From a list of 24 nominees proposed for the first group of Senior elections, nine officers were elected yesterday. The remaining officers of the class will be decided at the balloting to be held next Tuesday, for which nominations will be made at a meeting of the Senior Nominating Committee today.
Arthur Eugene French, of Winchester, was elected First Marshal. French prepared at Worcester Academy and during his college career has been captain of the Freshman football team, and this year of the University eleven, the first to defeat Yale in six years, as well as being president of his class in its Freshman year, a stellar sprint man on the track team and president of the Student Council. His total of 210 votes for First Marshal is one of the largest ever recorded in a Senior Class election.
Guarnaccia Second Marshal
David Guarnaccia of Wakefield who won the Second Marshal's post, prepared at Wakefield High School. He also is an outstanding football and track athlete. His play as a running mate of French in the last Yale game resulted in the two Crimson touchdowns.
The Third Marshal's position went to Forrester Andrew Clark of Boston, who prepared at St. Marks. Clark was a regular tackle on the football team, is captain of the University crew, a member of the polo team, and has been captain of the second hockey team. He is also a member of the Student Council and was president of his class in its Sophomore year.
Sweezy Gets Treasurership
The permanent Treasurer of the Class of 1929, Alan Richardson Sweezy of Englewood, New Jersey, prepared at Exeter. He is at present president of the Harvard CRIMSON, secretary of the Student Council, and has been chairman of the Student Advisory Committee. Robeson Bailey of Philadelphia, who is the newly elected Poet, prepared at Hill and is president of the Advocate. He played on his Freshman basketball and tennis teams.
The Class Orator, Lawrence Trevor Grimm, is from Los Angeles, and prepared at Manual Arts High. He is vice-president of the Harvard Union and president of the Debating Union. Alan Russell Blackburn of Boston is the Ivy Orator. He prepared at Hackley and is president of the Lampoon. In his Freshman year, he played on the soccer team.
The newly elected Chorister, Richard Stedman Holden of Bennington, Vermont, prepared at Exeter and is president of the University Instrumental Clubs Chauncey Devereux Stillman of New York City, who prepared at Kent, was elected Odist. He is an editor of the Advocate.
