Harvard Students To Vote on Divestment From Israel in Inaugural HUA Election Survey
The arguments of a post-election whispering campaign have at length become so loud that a mere "Hush!" from those called big-wigs is not enough to silence the speakers. Whatever that hard-gained Smith majority in the Bay State may have signified politically, it gave Governor Fuller, long the Republican Party's second prize publicity artist, a chance to step out to a sizeable lead over his once superior opponent, the vociferous Mr. Goodwin. Working on the sufficient assumption that an officer soon to be emeritus is safe from slings and arrows, the Governor has been chuckling pretty constantly and very, very sarcastically since November sixth. The appropriately-named Crows' dinner evoked sardonic notes from him, weak epigrams from Mayor Nichols, and much nudging among the other side.
It is these last, the Democrats of the Commonwealth, who can cap a year of surprising triumph in Massachusetts with a shiny new stock of G. O. P. corruption, to be opened in case of need. Usually it is the Donkey that must go out of his way to look up the general ineptitude, flagrant piracy, and sneering aristocracy that he pointedly ascribes to the Elephant. But the first Tuesday was a troublous time for every one, from the Head of the Pharmacists down: and in the chaos, the pirates have begun to peach on one another. There may be some names in this to be hung in a smaller, local room beside the vast public gallery dedicated to Fall-Doheny-Sinclair. At least the Democrats are entitled to hold that smile, and perhaps to scribble Governor Square down under a sub-head in their long list of Horrible Examples.
