COLONIAL CLUB HOUSE ACQUIRED FOR FACULTY

COLONIAL CLUB FOUNDED IN 1890 FOR CAMBRIDGE LEADERS

Harvard University will purchase the Colonial Clubhouse and its membership will be merged in that of a proposed Harvard Faculty Club, now in the process of organization, according to an announcement made yesterday by F. S. Deitrich, president of the Colonial club.

Plans for the organization of the Faculty Club are still in a preliminary stage. A meeting of several professors and deans has been held, but no definite arrangements have been made.

The University has held a mortgage on the Colonial Clubhouse for some time. The sale is being made in connection with the formation of the Faculty Club, and is practically completed, the officers of the Colonial club having voted to turn over the property to the University, although papers have not been passed and the merger of the two clubs will not formally take place until April.

The Colonial club for almost 40 years has been one of the most prominent social organizations in Cambridge. The officers are Mr. Deitrich, president; John Amee, treasurer, and Dr. Charles Stevens, secretary. The club was organized in 1890 so that a place might be provided where the men from the various sections of Cambridge could meet, to work together in matters pertaining to the good of the city.
