Harvard Soccer Team Takes Close Tilt 2 to 1--First Goal Comes 15 Minutes After Opening Whistle

The University soccer team defeated Clark University 2 to 1 in an exciting contest on Soldiers Field yesterday.

The first goal was scored in the first period after 15 minutes of scrimmage, mostly in the opponents' territory. The goal was tallied by J. W. Carrigan '31 from a melee in front of the Clark goal on a corner kick by D. G. Bodde '30. Coach Kershaw had started his substitute forward line, but found the opposition too strong for it.

The University team also carried the fight in the second period, most of the scrimmaging taking place on Clark's half of the field. The second goal was scored in this period by Bodde, who received a pass from center and carried the ball 40 yards down the field to score, unaided.

The second half found positions rather reversed, Clark keeping the ball in Harvard's territory the majority of the time, and only the stellar playing of the University half backs preventing several scores. The forward line played carelessly, but the team work was good.

Coach Kershaw made numerous substitutions to keep his men fresh for Saturday's game with Dartmouth.
