To the Editor of the CRIMSON:

It is, indeed, a sad commentary on politics and higher education if the evidence of a single error in the list of members of an undergraduate political club must immediately lead to unsubstantial charges of forgery, padding its lists, and general corruption. The Hoover-for-President Club admits that the signature in question was not genuine; but its presence is known to be the result of a curious type of practical joke from an independent source, combined with carelessness on the part of one of our workers, whose membership sheet was not turned in until after the charges had appeared in the CRIMSON. Since then we have checked over our list of members with a view both to authenticity of the individual signatures and as to numbers. We have found that the total exceeds the 445 names reported to the CRIMSON. Tuesday. Our files, however, will be kept open for further inspection by those whose suspicions are still alive. In the meantime we owe and gladly proffer an apology to Mr. Breithut, and assure him that his name will not again appear on our membership files.

To correct another misapprehension, the Republican Club and the Hoover-for-President Club are joint organizations, differing only in so far as the former is a permanent Republican organization, while the latter, with the present campaign as its sole interest, makes a special appeal to Hoover Democrats and Independents. The two clubs have carefully avoided any duplications in membership.

Prospective legitimate members of the Hoover-for-President Club may still sign up at Thayer 23. The Hoover-for-President Club.   Executive Committee,
