R. S. Hillyer '17 has been appointed Assistant Professor of English and Tutor in the Division of Modern Languages, it was announced last night by Professor J. S. P. Tatlock '96, of the department of English.
He was an assistant in English during 1919-1920, and from 1921 to 1925. In the year 1925-1926 he was an instructor in English. He then went to Trinity College, Hartford, Connecticut, and was Assistant Professor of English there from 1926 to 1928.
In the year 1920-1921 he studied at Copenhagen as holder of the fellowship offered by the American Scandinavian Foundation. He was president of the New England Poetry Club from 1923 to 1925, and is the publisher of six volumes of Poems and a translation of Danish verse.
In addition to doing tutorial work, he will give English 5, a course in advanced composition for Seniors and graduate students, and English 16, which is a course in the history of English verse, and verse composition Professor Hillyer will also be connected with the direction of English A.
