HORWEEN DRIVES ELEVEN IN ITS LAST SCRIMMAGE

LEWIS, WITH LEG FRACTURE, IS FIRST CASUALTY

Yesterday afternoon the University squad was put through the fourth consecutive scrimmage this week in the last strenuous workout before the opening of the season against Vermont tomorrow. The first serious injury at Harvard this fall cropped up in the scrimmage when G. L. Lewis '30, substitute end on team B and regular wing of last year's Freshman eleven, was carried from the field with a broken leg.

Although Team A was not on the field against the scrubs for more than a third of the 60 minute scrimmage, the first combination showed that it had already reached a high stage of coordination and smoothness. In the seven plays following the opening kickoff, the first team, with J. P. Crosby '28 and David Guarnaccia '29 carrying the ball, marched 85 yards to score the only touchdown of the afternoon. Once more the first string backs, following their interference through the holes opened in the scrub line, carried the ball down within striking distance of the goal line. This time, however, the ball was lost to the scrubs on a fumble.

The only change in the lineup of team A was that J. L. Combs Occ. replaced John Prior '29 at left end. Prior was given a day off to rest a lame muscle, but will probably be able to play in tomorrow's contest. Dudley Bell '28 was still at center and it is probable that he will be given the call over R. W. Turner '28 on Saturday, though the latter will no doubt see plenty of action in a relief role.
