Over 100 candidates for the University crew gathered at the first meeting of the season at Newell Boat House yesterday. Coach E. J. Brown '96, Captain John Watts '28, and Manager J. McA. Preston '28 addressed the assemblage.

Plans for fall rowing outlined by Coach Brown include a program of races, which will open next week. A four-mile race will conclude the fall work.

A feature of the fall work will be the individual instruction of candidates on the indoor tank under the personal supervision of Coach Brown.

The staff which will aid Brown throughout the year has not yet been named. His assistants during the fall period will be F. R. Sullivan '27, coxswain of the University crew last year, H. P. Travis '27, coxswain of the 1927 Freshman outfit, and R. W. Ladd '27, who rowed at No. 3 last spring.

Candidates for the University 150-lb crews met following the gathering of the heavier oarsmen, Coach Brown will have direct charge of the light eights for the duration of the fall season.

Coach B. W. Haines will meet the Freshman oarsmen between 2.30 and 3.30 o'clock in Weld Boat House. The fall training will end about November.
