HARVARD AND HOLY CROSS MEET TODAY

Broke Six-Year Spell of Defeat With 9 to 2 Triumph Last Month--Barbee to Pitch

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

On May 11 the University baseball team defeated Holy Cross by 9 to 2, marking the first victory over the Crusaders in six years. Today the nine will journey to Worcester to tackle the Purple on its home grounds.

J. N. Barbee '28, the leading moundsman of the Crimson staff, is slated to pitch. The choice of his opponent is uncertain. Fons, star hurler who was roughly handled in a relief role in the first Holy Cross tilt, may draw the assignment, although indications point toward the selection of Dobens, a southpaw pitcher who plays in the outfield when he is not occupying the box, Dobens appeared in the ninth inning of the first game, and did not get a fair chance to display his wares against Harvard. Last Saturday at New Haven he shut out the strong Yale nine, 7 to 0, allowing only two hits.

If Dobens should start the game in the box for the Purple, Coach F. G. Mitchell will probably shift his lineup in order to send righthanded hitters against the formidable southpaw. J. E. Tobin '27 will take the place of W. W. Lord '28 on first base, while I R. Duchin '27 will be behind the plate instead of Henry Chauncey '28 if Dobens mounts the mound in the first inning. Lord and Channcey are stronger batters than their substitutes, but both swing the bat from the side of the plate nearest first base.

Untill the victory of three weeks ago, the Holy Cross baseball team had held a six-year spell over the University diamond outfits, triumphing in every game, and scoring 50 runs against 14 for the Crimson during that period. In the last game. Harvard knocked Davidson and fons, the two leading right-handers of the Worcester nine, off the mound. The Crudaders' two runs were both scored by Harrell, their shortstop, who hit a home run on the first ball pitched in the game, and who drove out a triple in the sixth, on which W. B. Jones '28 made a wild throw, allowing the runner to make the circuit of the bases.
