UNIVERSITY EIGHT FACES LAST TRIAL ON THAMES TODAY

Red Top, Connecticut, June 20--This morning the University first and second eights encountered unfavorable water in their first paddle of the day and Coach E. J. Brown '96 permitted an early return to quarters, after taking his charges over a choppy upstream course for about four miles. Coach H. H. Haines did the same with the 1930 oarsmen, finding the course too rough for more than a slight workout.

Shift in Combination

The Combination eight was also out, but Coach C. S. Heard '25 has made a radical shift in the personnel of his boat and spent the morning coaching his charges. E. B. Hanley '27, formerly rowing in the number 7 seat in the 150-pound crew has been moved up to stroke the Combination eight, taking the place of B. J. Harrison '29 who has been moved back to number 6. D. R. Kroell '29 who has been rowing in the number 6 seat dropped out of the boat.

A change has also been made in the 1930 crew. A. T. Gray '30, a Freshman waiter here, has been moved into the number 7 seat. He held this position early in the season, but illness forced him to drop out. He is now back in condition.

Last Time Trial Today

The University eight has its last four mile time trial ahead of it tomorrow before the Yale race. Coach Brown has not decided as yet whether he will have it paced or not. If he decides against pacing the University oarsmen, the Seconds, the Combination and the Freshmen will stage a two mile race. Otherwise they will take turns at testing the mettle of the Crimson hopes.
