WORK BEGINS ON WALTER CAMP MEMORIAL GATE TO YALE FIELD

Ornamental Archway and Wall to Bound "Walter Camp Field"

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

New Haven, Conn., June 9--Construction work on the Walter Camp Memorial, a monumental gateway to be erected at the entrance to the Yale playing fields, wil begin at once. Revised plans for the memorial have been approved, it was announced today.

Yale Field is to be renamed Walter Camp Field. At the entrance to the fields, and directly in front of the Yale Bowl will be built an archway of brick and stone, 7 feet wide and 5 feet high. Over the arched entrance the inscription "Walter Camp Field" will be carved in stone.

Upon bronze tablets set in the wall flanking the arch will appear the names of the colleges and schools which contributed to the memorial, arranged by states. Extending about 400 feet on either side of the gateway will be a low ornamental in keeping with the character of the gate itself.

Half the expense of the memorial has been subscribed by Yale alumni, and half by the National Collegiate Athletic Association, on behalf of other universities and schools.
