CREWS WILL HAVE FINAL BASIN TRIAL TOMORROW

The two University crews, accompanied by Captain Geoffrey Platt '27 as substitute, will leave for Annapolis on the Federal Express Thursday night. On Saturday they will open the season against the powerful Navy eights.

Tomorrow the Crimson oarsmen will have their final pre-race test over the Basin course. Last Saturday the second crew beat the first but the heavy University shell should regain its former status tomorrow. On Saturday three men were in new positions, and the crew never settled down, being somewhat out of time at the finish. The second crew is steadily improving and should give the Annapolis "jayvees" a great battle. The Navy seconds beat Pennsylvania by two lengths last Saturday, while the Red and Blue University eight was trailing by five lengths. A victory for the Watts stroked shell next Saturday, seems a bit too much to hope for, but if the Harvard crew improves as it ought to the race should be a battle. The Crimson eight averages more than 183 pounds per man, and if the crew can get together smoothly the power will tell.

The two crews that will make the trip are as follows:

Second crew--stroke, C. McK. Norton '27; 7, George Bancroft '27; 6, J. deW Hubbard '29; 5, J. H. Harwood '27; 1, J. B. Olmstead '27; 3, J. R. Barry '27; 2. R. S. Riley '27; bow, James Lawrence Jr. '29; coxswain C. H. Pforzheimer '28.

Besides Captain Platt and Coach Brown, the party going to Annapolis will include Rigger Edward Dennison, Assistant Managers J. M. Preston '28, and Hulburd Johnson '29, and probably Dr. E. A. Harding '15.

The squad will arrive at Annapolis and practice twice on Friday. They will be quartered at Bancroft Hall. The Junior University crews will paddle to the mark at 4 o'clock on Saturday afternoon.

Tomorrow afternoon, besides the race between the first two crews, the first of three races between the class crews will be held.
