Plans for University Dining Hall Sanctioned by Lowell

President Lowell has approved definite plans for a club table system, to go into effect next winter. These arrangements, which provide for the erection of a dining hall at the corner of Mount Auburn and Holyoke Streets demand that 500 students pledge themselves to eat at this building regularly for the first semester next year at a weekly expense of approximately $9.50.

In the president's communication on this subject he says, "A club table system, means, first, that all students eating at the hall should be grouped into such tables; second, that there should be a special table for each group; third, that the members of a group should eat at their own table, but not necessarily at the same hour. Of course they must come within the hours at which meals are served; but they would not be limited any more than that, nor have they been at club tables formerly conducted at Memorial Hall."

The drive for the necessary 500 signatures will begin immediately in the Freshman Hall and if it meets with success the canvass will be extended in order to take in the entire University. M. A. Cheek '26, head proctor in the Smith Hall, has approved of these plans and dormitory chairmen have volunteered in each hall. A. G. Hart '30, and Jackson Hurd '30 will organize the petitioning in the Smith Halls, W. B. Thurber '30 in Standish, W. T. Wetmore '30 in McKinlock, and T. F. Mason '30 in Gore. Although the move is starting in the Freshman Halls any member of the University is eligible to become a petitioner.
