FRESHMAN EIGHTS WIN IN INVITATION REGATTA

FRESHMEN WILL RACE PENN AND TECH ON SATURDAY

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

Two races of the Invitation Begatta which were held yesterday in the rough water of the lower basin resulted in victories for the first and third Freshman eights. The first 1930 boat was rowed by the same eight men who will row in the Freshmen triangular races between Harvard M. I. T. and Pennsylvania next Saturday.

The first year eight won by two lengths from the Sophomore crew, having led the race all the way. The University 150-pound boat rowed through the Henley distance with the two heavier eights, and was half a length ahead of the sophomore crew when the mile and three-quarter mark was reached.

Third Freshman Eight Wins

In the race for junior eights over the mile course, the third Freshmen Crew nosed out the Senior class crew to win by four or five feet. The Junior class boat crossed the line in third place, followed by the McKinlock Dormitory crew, with one length separating the boats as they finished.

The Freshman second boat will race the Union Boat Club in the division of senior eights in the Invitation Regatta. Coach Brown announced last night that after the class crew race with Yale next Saturday, he will pick the third university crew from among the class boats to row at the American Henley in Philadelphia on May 28. The Freshman 150-pounders will also row Saturday, in a race with the Yale first year light weights.

The seatings of the 1930 first eight, the Freshman 150-pound boat, and the sophomore class crew for their respective races Saturday with Tech and Penn, the Yale first year 150-pounders, and the Eli class crew, follows:
