HOWARD BEWILDERS WILLIAMS BATTERS IN PITCHING DEBUT

Score Is Tied Until Fifth, Inning When Crimson Takes Lead -- Donaghy, Chase Each Score Twice

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

Hurling his first game for the University, Willard Howard '28 held the Williams nine to two hits at Williams-town Saturday, where the Crimson conquered by 6 to 2. Loose support by his teammates was responsible for the two runs scored off. Howard, who should have shut out his foes.

Smith limited the Harvard hitters to eight blows, but three Williams errors and stolen bases by Burns and Donaghy helped to swell the Crimson total.

Score Tied Until Fifth Inning

After Harvard had scored once in the first and Williams had tied in the second, two hits and an infield out in the fifth put the visitors ahead for the last time. Donaghy led off with a single, and then Chase delivered a long triple to the furthest limits of the outfield. To the counter that this hit scored was added a second when Chase came home on Howard's demise at first.

Errors by Captain Zarakov and Donaghy and a sacrifice by Smith gave the Purple team its last run in the second half of the fifth.

A free ticket to first issue to Jones, a sacrifice and a single by Chauncey brought around a Harvard run in the eighth, while Burns delivered a single with teammates on second and third to account for the final pair of scores.

Howard Makes Debut on Crimson Mound

Howard pitched at Middlesex, but on coming to the University, he was made over into an infielder and was a regular on the nine two years ago until he was struck in the eye by a batted ball in practice before the Princeton game. This season Coach F. G. Mitchell has been endeavoring again to form him into a moundsman.
