Harvard's 1927 football campaign will be opened this afternoon when the Crimson gridiron candidates meet Head Coach Arnold Horween '21 and a large corps of assistants in the Locker Building at 2:30 o'clock.

Horween arrived in Boston from Chicago yesterday and attended a conference of coaches last night. His staff numbers eight assistant coaches, listing on its roster E. L. Casey '20, V. P. Kennard '09, Walter Clearly '15, J. L. Donovan '24, J. L. Knox '98, E. H. Bradford, Jr., '26, H. W. Clark '23, and Frank Shaughnessy.

The second team field of last fall has been enclosed and all practice sessions of the three week season will be secret. Workouts for the first few days will consist largely of conditioning exercises.

The turf, according to Dennis Enright, caretaker of Soldiers Field, is in excellent condition, and the goal posts have already been moved back ten yards from the goal lines to satisfy the new regulations.

The changes in the football rules, made a month ago, were so radical this winter that the development of football along the new lines marked out for it will be watched with more than usual interest. Particularly interesting will be the opening up of the game by the lateral passing rule, from which Harvard is expected to draw full benefit through the coaching of Frank Shaughnessy, well: known Rugby football coach at McGill University.

The candidates will be addressed this afternoon by Coach Horween and Captain elect C. A. Pratt '28. Besides the coaches listed above, Horween will be assisted also by C. D. Coady '27, captain of last season's eleven and by other members of that team who are graduating in June.
