Cantabridgian Bluecoat Marooned on Elevated Roost in Sea of Traffic in Square--"Capsule of Law" is Indifferent

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

Fully equal now in height to the average pedestrian, stands the Cambridge policeman whose duty it is to guide the destinies of foot and vehicular traffic in Harvard Square. For, in unparallelled magnanimity and broadness of mind, those powers which exist in the Cambridge constabulary have produced a clean white enclosure and set it up opposite the Rotunda.

High, high above the streaming, teaming asphalt, at least 18 inches above the ground, now stands the officer of the day. On all four sides of him are bright, white canvas sides. On one of these are emblazoned the magic words testifying to the powers which sanctioned the construction of the imposing edifice--"Cambridge Police", no less.

With a nod to right and another to left and a solemn wave of the hand to traffic, the blue-coated capsule of the law reigns supreme.

Whether fear of being crushed before the ever-increasing tide of spring automobilists or a desire to stand above the rest of Cambridge society moved the polizei to this action will never be discovered; the fact remains that the Blue at present stands above the Crimson.

Interviewed on the subject of his remarkable rise. Patrolman Terhune had the following to say. "I attribute my recent elevation on the force to persistent attention to duty and in no small part to taking no back talk from motorists. I stand up here and scowl at 'em and the best of 'em go by in silence." Just then he became aware of violent horn tooting, and blowing his whistle released the jam which had developed during the conversation. Amid stately sweeps of the hand the cars sped past leaving the isolated bluecoat marooned on his roost.
