RHODES SELECTION TO BE MADE NEXT DECEMBER

Requirements for Scholarships Are Announced--Greene Is Secretary of Selection Committee

Rhodes Scholars for the year 1928-29 will be elected on December 10, 1927, it was announced yesterday by Professor W. C. Greene, Secretary of the Committee of Selection of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. The qualities considered in an applicant are manhood, force of character, leadership, literary and scholastic ability and attainments; and physical vigor as shown by interest in outdoor sports.

Elections to the scholarships this year will he from 32 states. Massachusetts applicants who wish to be nominated should get in touch before October 8 with Professor Greene, at 60 Shepard Street, or call at 5 University Hall.

The various American colleges will select their representatives by October 15, and applications to the Secretaries of the Committees of Selection in the several states must be made by October 22.

The Rhodes scholarships are open to unmarried American citizens who will be between 19 and 25 years of age on October 1, 1928, and who have completed at least two years of college work. They are tenable for a period of three years at Oxford and carry an annual stipend of 400 pounds sterling.
