Harvard University as a whole will have its first chance to pay tribute to the memory of former President Charles William Eliot on March 20 when a memorial service will be held in Appleton Chapel. The date which has been chosen for this first gathering of undergraduates to commemorate the life of Harvard's late President Emeritus is also the ninety-third anniversary of his birth.
The service, which is to start at 3 o'clock, will be conducted by the Reverend Francis G. Peabody '69, who offered the prayer in both the funeral services held for President Eliot last summer President Lowell and C. F. Thwing '76, President Emeritus of Western Reserve University will address the assembly in Appleton Chapel, and the University Choin, directed by Professor Davison, will sing.
Since President Eliot died on August 22 the funeral services which were held three days after his death in Appleton Chapel came at a time when all the students of the University were absent from Cambridge. The Memorial service next Sunday thus marks the first occasion on which all of the Harvard undergraduate body will have a chance to pay their respects to the great leader of the University's formative years.
Seats in the galleries will be open to the general public at this service.
