Captains were elected yesterday afternoon by each of the four crews which have been retained on the A squad. It was also the first day on which the 1930 oarsmen have appeared in shells.
The captains of the four crews are as follows:
Crew A, J. J. Barry '28; Crew B, Oliver Ames ocC.; Crew C, R. W. Ladd '27; Crew D, C. McK. Norton '29.
Norton, who was captain and stroke of last year's Freshman eight, will hold his present captaincy only until the return of Geoffrey Platt '27, captain elect of this year's University crew. At present Platt is ill at his home in New York and probably will be unable to row for about two weeks.
In spite of the fact that the University oarsmen have been in shells all this week, the 1930 men had been rowing in the Leviathan until yesterday, when Coach Haines sent three of his eights out in shells and one in a barge. The rest of the first year men continued to row in the Leviathan and probably will do so again today.
