O'NEIL LEADS LENESS IN SPEEDY 600 YARD RUN

The victory of A. H. O'Nell '28 over George Leness 1L, in the second trial heat of the 600 yard run was the high spot of the second day of the Winter Track meet yesterday afternoon. O'Neil, who scintillated as a Freshman but showed a decided relapse last year, has been running in top form this season and stepped the distance yesterday in the exceptionally fast time of 1 minute 16 3-5 seconds. Leness, who finished third, was the mainstay of the M. I. T. team last year and is known as one of the best middle distance runners in the east. W. H. Hulsman '29 granted a 15-yard handicap, was the second to cross the line. He ran on last year's Freshman relay team.

Dunn Trails Miller

A. H. Miller '27 flashed down the board runway to win the 40 yard dash even with no difficulty. The Crimson speed king covered the distance in 4 4-5 seconds. T. E. Dunn '29, with a handicap of three feet, was second, while Thomas Mason '30, star on the first year relay quartet, crossed the line in third place.

C. E. Ring 1L, took the jumps in front of the University hurdlers. J. S. Ballantyne '27 and W. J. Henrich '28, in the time of 6 2-5 seconds. All three men started from the scratch line; A. B. Horsfall '30, starting with a lead of ten yards, showed his spikes to the field in the first trial heat of the 300 yard run. He paced the distance in 35 2-5 seconds. F. A. Pickard '29, who left the marks five yards behind the victor, was second, while George Elsass '30, with a four yard handicap, went over the line in the third position. In the second trial heat, F. M. Sears '27, substitute runner on the University squad, was victorious, running the total distance in 35 3-5 seconds. Second place honors went to D. A. Lomasney '28, who left the starting line on even terms with Sears. E. W. Remick left the field 10 yards in the lead to finish third.

W. C. Peet '28 ran a front race in the 600 yard run, finishing in 1 minute 18 3-5 seconds. S. P. Fuller '30 and L. D. Brayton '28 crossed the line next in order. In the 1000 yard event, J. O. Wildes '30 showed a fine brand of speed and breasted the tape in the good time of 2 minutes 22 1-5 seconds. J. E. Hartnett '29 and Heartch followed him in.

Captain E. C. Haggerty '27 and J. L. Reid '29 were victorious in the one and two mile runs respectively. W. E. Locke '37 hurled the 35-pound weight 44 feet 5 inches to win that event.
