ENGLISHMEN DOWN CRIMSON IN CLOSE RACQUET CONTEST

Emerge Victorious for University in Fast Encounters--Captain Cazalet Leads Brilliant British Attack

The English squash team, led by Captain Victor Cazalet, downed the Crimson racquet wielders yesterday afternoon on the University courts by a score of 3 to 2.

The play was fast in every match and the decision still stood in the balance, with two games to the credit of each side until G.S. Incledon-Webber, number four on the English squad, defeated E.D. Pratt '27 in three straight matches, 15 to 12, -15 to 11, and 16 to 15.

The feature match of the meet was probably that between Colonel W.F. Bassett and H.B. Jackson '27, which Jackson won by scores of 17 to 14, 9 to 15, 11 to 15, 15 to 11 and 15 to 12. Colonel Bassettt, who is a middle aged man, played his shots with a deadly accuracy which very nearly resulted in overcoming Jackson's greater agility. On two different occasions they staged unusually long sessions of volleying and the match was full of thrills from start to finish.

In the clash between Captain Cazalet and P.M. Lenhart '27 there was snappy play in which Cazalet was clearly the outstanding figure for at least the first two matches. Then Lenhart seemed to find his stride but was still unable to cope with the brilliant strokes of the Englishman and went down to a 3 to 1 defeat. The scores were 15 to 10, 15 to 12, 9 to 15, and 15 to 12.

J.L. Pool '28, the second of the two University players who emerged from the fray victorious, defeated P. de L. Casanove by scores of 15 to 12, 16 to 18, 15 to 7, 13 to 15 and 15 to 11. This match was as full of tense moments as the Bassett Jackson go.

G.S. Incledon Webber defeated E.D. Pratt '27 by scores of 15 to 12, 15 to 11 and 16 to 15 and W.J. Iselin '28 bowed to F.M. Strawson by scores of 15 to 10, 15 to 12 and 15 to 11.
