SCHOOLBOYS SUCCUMB IN CLOSE CONTEST WITH FRESHMEN

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

Suffering their second defeat of the season last night in Hemenway gymnasium the University cage men were swamped under a score of 36 to 24 by Holy Cross.

From the opening whistle the floor work of the Crimson tossers was erratic and they were unable to profit at the expense of the lax guarding of Holy Cross. The first part of the initial period was close and hard fought although neither team displayed much real basketball ability. Toward the end of the period Holy Cross developed an offensive with which the University men were unable to cope. They gradually forged ahead to a 12 point lead and the half closed with the score 23 to 11.

Harvard Five Rallies

In the second half the University team came back with renewed energy but with the same misfortune encountered during the previous period. In spite of the weak defense maintained by Holy Cross the Crimson court men failed to sink their shots. At the same time their own defense was decidedly inadequate and the invaders kept piling up the score until the final whistle blew when it stood 36 to 24.

In spite of poor teamwork and support Barbee and Green played good individual games. For Holy Cross Connors was the outstanding star with eight field goals and three free throws.

Freshmen Beat Andover

Last night's reversal was somewhat compensated, however, by the Freshmen's 39 to 32 win over Andover, the first in four years. In this game Ward and Green were the outstanding stars.
