Three out of four matches were won by the University squash teams at the opening schedule of the Massachusetts Squash Racquets Association held Saturday, the Union Boat Club, the B. A. A., and the University Club falling before the racquets of the University team, while the Freshman team lost to the Walkover Club. The University may have suffered from the lack of experience, but was superior in endurance, and despite the fact that several of last year's players have been lost, Coach Harry Cowles is very optimistic about the season.
The matches played Saturday resulted as follows:
Team A Union Boat Club at the Union Boat Club. Harvard 4, Union Boat Club 1. J. L. Pool '28 captain defeated W. F. Howe, 3-2. S. M. Dupertius '28 defeated W. I. Badger, 3-0. Seabury Oliver '28 defeated R. C. Cochrane, 3-0. B. H. Whitbeck '29 defeated E. R. Hastings, 3-1.
Team B at the B. A. A. Harvard 4, B. A. A. 1 G. T. Francis '30 defeated C. O. Wellington, 4-2. Loyd Vander Horst ocC. defeated P. Sheelinee, 3-2. H. G. Cushing '28 defeated N. W. Kennedy, 3-0. E. M. Shelton '30, defeated J. H. Read, 3-0.
Team C at the Union Boat Club. Harvard 5, University Club 0. J. C. Rueter '28 defeated E. W. Cobb, 3-2. J. R. Ware '30 defeated L. Shapiro, 3-1. S. B. Myers '29 defeated E. S. Goodspeed, 3-1, Erlund Fields '28 defeated E. W. Tombard, 3-0. R. G. Fiske '28 defeated R. Roshland, 3-2.
Team D Harvard 1, Walkover Club 4. C. D. G. Breckinridge '31 defeated Parment, 3-0. Felth defeated A. C. Ingraham '31, 3-2. Burriel defeated N. F. Glidden '31, 3-1. Allen defeated Daniel Merriman, 3-2. Peterson defeated H. G. Bartol '31, 3-0.
