CONDUCTS UNIQUE TRIP NEXT SUMMER

In a trip unique in the history of the department of Geology, approximately 15 students from the University will have an opportunity to accompany Professor K. F. Mather on a research trip to Europe next summer, it was announced yesterday by the department. This trip, of 12 weeks' duration, will take students to most of the interesting geological points of Europe. Replacing the annual expedition to mountains of America, it will count as a full course for all students in the University participating. The party, consisting of men and women from Mount Holyoke, Northwestern, Oberlin, Clark, and M. I. T. will hear daily lectures aboard ship, but will, in addition to the work required, have an opportunity to see many points of interest in the countries traversed.

The party will sail from New York on June 18 on board the S. S. Cleveland, proceeding straight to Cherbourg, and from there by rail to Paris, where some time will be spent in sight seeing. The battle fields of France will be studied and the influence of their topography on the victories of the allies in the last war. Especial attention will be paid to the region around the Paris basin, where Professor Davis, one of Harvard's best known geologists, did considerable work on erosion.

On July 1, the party will join at Geneva a similar group of students from the University of Geneva headed by Professor L. W. Collet, who will take charge of the combined parties. The party will climb many interesting mountains, among which are six Alpine peaks, including the Matterhorn, where the party will spend three days. On August 10 the party will visit Mr. Vesuvius, and from there will go to the Balearic Islands which lie out of the beaten tourist track and especially interesting for their wave worn coast.

Any student of the University who has taken Geology 4 and 5 is eligible for the trip. The expenses are $1175, including all expenses, except the tips on board ship.
