BUSINESS SCHOOL GETS GIFT OF EARLY TOOLS

A collection of early New England industrial products from the old-Manning Manse at Billerica has just been presented to the Business School by W.H. Manning of Belmont, as illustrative of the industrial development of the country.

Included in the gift to the Business School are several pieces of hardware taken from Massachusetts Hall when more modern equipment was installed. One of the carpenter's planes, judging from the inscription burned on its side, was used during the construction of the Middlesex Canal from Boston to Lowell about 1795.

Agricultural and lumbering tools are included in the collection, with several devices used in the preparation of food stiffs. One machine has a simple gear arrangement, with a crank turned by hand, and is one of the forerunners of the complicated machines of today.

An adjustable horseshoe, various lamps, flat-irons, and locks, together with many tools for working both wood and Iron, comprise the remainder of the gift.
