Assistant Professor R. M. Eaton, head of the tutors in the department of Philosophy, brings up in the columns of today's CRIMSON the old and all important question of the final destination and purpose of Harvard's experiment with the tutorial system. As in the case of all large experiments of this sort involving first a sharp and radical change followed by a long period of slow evolution, the tutorial system is an off and on issue with the general undergraduate public. At one moment it is acutely aware of the existence of the tutorial plan; then follow varying periods of apathy and neglect.
Mr. Eaton believes that there has been a general misapprehension as to the final goal, and he states a direct issue,--Oxford tutorial system versus the Lecture-Tutorial plan in effect at Harvard. Believing this issue to be of more than passing importance the CRIMSON will forego further editorial comment until tomorrow, when this column will be devoted to a careful and detailed discussion of the question.
