THESPIANS TO HEAR EMINENT SPEAKERS

At the open meeting of the Harvard Dramatic Club this evening opportunity will be offered to members of the University to hear three men prominent in various fields of dramatic endeavor.

Clayton Hamilton, eminent play critic, E. M. Woolley, Dean of the Repertory Theatre Workshop, and E. E. Clive, director of the Copley Theatre, will address the gathering, which is to be held in the Faculty Room of the Union at 7 o'clock.

The topic of Mr. Hamilton's speech will be "The Trend of Contemporary Drama." Mr. Hamilton, a writer and lecturer on the Stage, and Professor of Dramatics at Columbia, in his many books has not confined his attention to the present period but has ranged all the way from Aeschylus to Eugene O'Neill and from Aristophanes to George M. Cohan. Four of his volumes of dramatic criticism are published in a uniform series by Henry Holt and Company; these are "The Theory of the Theatre," "Studies in Stagecraft," "Problems of the Playwright," and "Seen on the Stage." His most recent book, entitled "Conversa- tions on Contemporary Drama," is published, by The Macmillan Company.

For sixteen months, from November, 1924, to March, 1926, Mr. Hamilton toured the United States and Canada, lecturing on Richard Brinsley Sheridan, in connection with the sesqui-centennial revival of "The Rivals," with Mrs. Fiske in the role of Mrs. Malaprop. Having long been a member of the National Institute of Arts and Letters, Mr. Hamilton is also secretary of The Players, famous club of actors founded by Edwin Booth, of which the president is Walter Hampden '00.

Mr. Clive, who has been director of the Copley Theatre organization since 1924, will speak on "The Theatre of Today," and Mr. Woolley, former head of the Yale Dramatic Association, will deal with some phase of the college stage.

After the speaking, two officers of the club will address the candidates for the nine open competitions, which are the following: Art department, including Painting, Make-up, and Costume; Stage department, including Construction, Electricity, and Property; Business department; Publicity department; and Subscription department.E.
