When the University football squad gathered at Soldiers Field yesterday afternoon for its first workout after the grueling Purdue encounter, Coach Arnold Horween '20 ordained a policy of retracing the first steps in a gridiron education. A rigid drill in the fundamentals of football for every squad member, irrespective of rank, was the order of the afternoon.
The players reported in good condition, and it is expected that practically the entire squad will be in condition to taste action against the Crusaders of Holy Cross in the Stadium next Saturday. A. E. French '29, who started last Saturday's game at halfback, but who retired in the first quarter after receiving a hard blow in the side, was reported as improving rapidly. It was feared at first that his injury might be serious, but Dr. T. K. Richards '15, after a careful examination, declared that the speedy Junior will be fit in two days' time. G. K. Brown '28, who was hit on the head in the Purdue battle, was pronounced fit for work. J. L. Combs ocC., who has been out with a bad knee, was in togs yesterday, and did light work. A lame leg muscle kept S. C. Burns '29 from reporting at the field yesterday afternoon.
