The Aviation Course at M. I. T. for which Harvard students are eligible will open next Tuesday evening with a preliminary recruiting lecture at 7 o'clock. The lecture will be illustrated, and will be followed next week by the first lecture on the theory of flight.
The course has been divided into six parts. The theory of flight will be followed in order by lectures on "Aviation of Introduction," "Scouting" "Aircraft Instruments," "Aerology" and "Practical Flying," with three or four lectures to each division.
The lectures will continue through April, with recesses for mid-year examinations and the spring vacation. The last will be held in April. Examinations will then be conducted and the selection of the students who are eligible for the first summer training period at Squantum will be announced.
During the flight training period the men will be enrolled as second class seamen, and are paid an average stipulation of about $90 a month. The enrollment last year numbered over 200. Twenty men were selected for the practical part of the course. This year, due to a governmental ruling which limits the entire number to 22, only seven men from this district will be taken from the Ground School.
Philadelphia has five men, Washington, five, Hampton Roads five. All men from the district must be from Boston or vicinity, and must be over 18 years of age.
