Board Track on Soldiers Field Erected During Vacation--K. of C. Meet First on Schedule

This afternoon will mark the opening of the winter track season when Coach E. L. Farrell, Captain E. C. Haggerty '27, and Manager S. E. Gleason '27 will address the candidates for the team in the Soldiers Field Locker Building at 3 o'clock. Coach Farrell has issued an urgent call for men, and hopes the initial turnout will reach the 500 mark. Between 250 and 300 candidates reported at the opening of the season last year.

On paper the prospects for this year's team are very good, Coach Farrell says, and the season will open with a rush. The board track at Soldiers Field has been erected during the vacation, and the men who have been running on bare ground and in the Hemenway Gymnasium will be able to transfer their energies to the Soldiers Field structure. This year the track has been erected about 50 yards back of its old position on account of the new Baseball Cage now in the process of construction.

The first practice will be held this afternoon immediately after the meeting. The training table of the Varsity Club will open this evening, starting with 18 men. Coach Farrell intends to add to this number as soon as the men establish their ability.

The first time trials are to be held tomorrow afternoon in order to get a line on the material for the sprints and hurdles.

Competition is expected to be considerably harder in all events, because of the opportunity every man has of going to England this summer to meet the Oxford and Cambridge teams at Stamford Bridge on July 9.

The annual K. of C. meet in Boston will be the first to test the University track men, who will run in most of the important meets of the Eastern indoor season.

The schedule follows:

January 22--K. of C. meet.

February 3--Millrose. (N. Y.)

February 5--B. A. A.

February 14--N. Y. A. C. (N. Y.)

February 22--American Legion.

February 26--Harvard-Dartmouth-Cornell.

March 5--I. C. A. A. A. A. in N. Y.
