President Lowell will act as president of the Associated Harvard Clubs until a new president is elected in April at the meeting of the association in Memphis, it is announced in this week's Alumni Bulletin. Mr. Joseph R. Hamlen '04, Chairman of the Executive Committee of the Harvard Fund Council will serve as his aide.
Pesident Lowell and Mr. Hamlen have accepted the positions out of deference to the memory of President John W. Hallowell '01 and in order to carry on the work of the Associated Harvard Clubs efficiently during the balance of his term.
Will Attend Club Dinners
President Lowell will represent the Associated Harvard Clubs, as well as the University, at the annual dinners and meetings of the Harvard Clubs of New York City, Chicago, and St. Louis; and also at the twenty-fifth Anniversary Dinner of the Harvard Club of Worcester on February 3. He will preside at the meeting of the Executive Committee of the Associated Harvard Clubs, in Chicago on February '21.
Mr. Hamlen, as the Club executive of the Harvard Fund, was closely in touch with Mr. Hallowell and with his plans, and will endeavor to carry them out.
The acceptance of Mr. Lowell and Mr. Hamlen of the duties formerly held by Mr. Hallowell comes as the solution of a difficult problem. The Memphis meeting of the Associated Harvard Clubs in April was being prepared for by Mr. Hallowell as one of the central features in what he called his "greatest Harvard year." President Lowell will be the executor of Mr. Hallowell's wishes in this regard. He will hold the office until the April meeting when a new president will be elected by the representatives of the Associated Harvard Clubs.
