Outreached by a faster quintet on an unfamiliar floor, the Freshman basketball team was defeated by Milton at Milton yesterday afternoon by a score of 25-17.
Getting away to an early lead the husky schoolboys kept the Crimson first-year men on the defensive throughout a hard fought contest. Ticknor, Milton star, and his team-mate Upton, six foot, five center, cooperated on a gruelling offense, setting too fast a pace for the Freshman tossers. Both men are high point scorers for Milton, and made four and six goals respectively in yesterday's game.
For the Harvard quintet the Milton victory was the second defeat of the season, giving the 1930 team now two victories and two losses. It had previously defeated M. I. T. and Choate and lost to Cushing.
The Freshmen were without the services of their Captain, H. T. Wenner in the lineup yesterday. Wenner is still out with a sprained ankle. F. H. Ward '30 in the right forward position and H. L. Waterman '30 rangy center, led the attack against the schoolboys. Waterman showed accuracy in his shots when within scoring distance, making four goals.
Score--Milton 25, Harvard Freshmen 17. Goals from floor--Ward 3, Waterman 4, LaRue, Ticknor 4, Upton 3, Cheney, Huguley. Goals on fouls--Mitchel, Cheney, Upton 3, Huguley 2, Beyer. Referee--Yeaton. Time--four 8-minute periods.
