The Columbia grapplers proved too strong for the University wrestling team last night when they outpointed them by a score of 20-3 on the mat at Hemenway Gymnasium.
The meet marks a reversal of form last night. A year ago the University matmen triumphed over Columbia by a score of 21-8.
Joseph Lifrak '29 starred for Harvard in the 145-pound event. His spectacular finish in a listless, evenly matched overtime proved the climax of the evening Outwitting his wiry adversary in the last few minutes of the struggle, he heaved him to the mat for a referee's decision of 1:51 minutes.
Lifrak was last year's Freshman Captain and his victory gave his team its sole score of three points.
In the heavyweight class Michael Sesit, Columbia's wily and husky Captain, outlasted T. D. Howe '28, 175 pounder, after a desperate struggle for the advantage in the early stages of the bout. Sesit is a veteran of the mat who had to show his beat form to down Howe..
The upset of the evening came when Simmons of Columbia, an untried Sophomore, obtained a fall over the experienced Turner, last year's New England Intercollegiate Champion. After 1.35 minutes of evenly matched wrestlings Simmons obtained a cradle hold which flattened Turner on the mat.
Captain H. R. Wood '27 did not participate on account of illness.
M. I. T. at M. I. T. next Wednesday night at 8 o'clock will provide the University matmen their next opposition.
