ISSUE FIRST CALL FOR FALL OARSMEN

Fall rowing practice under the new leadership of Head Coach E. J. Brown '14 will officially get under way with a meeting of all upper class candidates at 5 o'clock tomorrow in the Smith Halls Common Rooms. Freshman rowing will be initiated when all 1930 aspirants will be called together tomorrow night at 7 o'clock in the same place. A call for Sophomore candidates for the position of Second Assistant Crew Manager was also issued last night by Manager C. H. Weymer '27, and the first meeting will be held at 1.05 o'clock tomorrow at the H. A. A. The competition will be eight weeks long and no previous experience is required of candidates.

"There will be no University eight picked this fall," declared Coach Brown former class crew mentor, who was recently appointed to succeed to the position of head coach, in speaking of the rowing situation yesterday, "and we intend to give every man who reports for crew this fall an opportunity to thoroughly grasp the fundamental principles of pulling an oar before there will be any definite classification of the boats. I want a chance to size up the men who report for practice, and in order to do this will pick even crews and will keep changing the lineups."

At the first meeting tomorrow Captain Geoffrey Platt '27, W. J. Bingham '16, Director of Athletics, Coach Brown, and Delmar Leighton '19 will give brief talks to the assembled candidates, and Captain Platt and Coach Haines of the Freshman crew will address the 1930 rowing enthusiasts at the following meeting. At the meeting of upperclassmen. Coach Brown is expected to enlarge on his plans for the season and on any further departures from the former system of training, which may be inaugurated this year.

Informal Rowing Starts Monday

Informal rowing is scheduled to start for both upperclassmen and Freshmen on Monday afternoon when the first combination of oarsmen will be posted in the window of Leavitt and Peirce's. Yesterday and Monday Captain Platt took eights on to the Charles for brief preliminary workouts for returned crew men. The upperclass candidates will report for workouts at Newell boat house while the first-year men will report to Weld boat house.

The new coaching staff to succeed Coach Newell in intructing the 150-pound oarsmen this year has been tentatively appointed but the names have not been definitely approved as yet. The light weight eights will row separately and are expected to be called out for preliminary work with the announcement of the new coaches.
