A jump of 26 points, the largest of any week this season, in the Crimson batting average is the result of two victories won by scores of 10 to 1 and 5 to 1 over Princeton and the Alumni. The individual members of the nine profited in their batting averages as greatly as did the team average. The present figure of .280 is the highest the team has had so far this year. The helding mark was also on the rise, only two errors being recorded in the two games played in the past week, the team average jumping three points from .938 to .941.
Chase Now in Lead
Chase, diminutive utility infielder for the Crimson, broke into the shortstop position on Wednesday against the Alumni when Sullivan was detained by the team with the bat. His mark of .385 has not been maintained through examinations. He got two solid bingles in three trips to the plate and his average so profited that he now leads a long series of games since he has figured only in seven games this year, but it is nevertheless the highest on the Crimson roster. Burns, ousted from the lead by the prowess of Chase, is further entrenched with a rise of twelve points. Captain Todd, and Zarakov, third and fourth respectively, each swung the willow during the past week to give them a higher average than that before the deciding Tiger contest. De Rham, although he did not get into the game against former Crimson diamond stars on Wednesday, pulled his average in the Princeton game alone from .222 to .250 poling out a double and a triple in the process.
Zarakov Gets 20 Runs
The tabulations of the leading Crimson players in the various departments of the game show that Zarakov, veteran third sacker, has cornered most of the leading numbers. Breaking his tie with Captain Todd for the greatest number of hits, he has forged ahead with 26 to his credit on the score books. He has passed Sullivan since last week in the number of times he has crossed the rubber with a counter, having amassed a total of 20 runs, one sixth of the total number that has been scored by the Crimson this year. He has proved himself the fleetest member of Captain Todd's aggregation by passing his leader in the number of bases stolen, holding the lead with a half a dozen. Ties with Burns, DeRham, Sullivan and Ullman for the home run lead and with Captain Todd for the sacrifice hit title complete Zarakov's record. Ullman drove a circuit smash into center field on Wednesday to crash into the select group of Crimson home run hitters.
