NINE OUT TO BREAK DARTMOUTH HOODOO

Playing three games within the next five days, the University baseball team faces the hardest test of the year in its efforts to round out what is probably the most successful season in the past five years.

Dartmouth will invade Soldiers Field tomorrow with another powerful nine, while Yale will be met at New Haven on Tuesday and Cambridge on Wednesday.

Green Victorious Since 1916

Not since 1916 has the Crimson been victorious over the Green on the diamond, and next to a victory over Yale this spring there is probably not another game on the schedule that Captain Todd's outfit is more desirous of winning.

By a singular coincidence, the last baseball victory over Dartmouth was scored by the last team that Coach Mitchell had charge of in Cambridge. During the season of 1916, Coach Mitchell, then assisting with the management of the Boston Braves, was persuaded to coach the University nine, and he directed it through a schedule of 28 games of which the Crimson won 25.

Whitney Last Conquered Dartmouth

Wilmot Whitney '16 was the last pitcher to win a verdict for the University over Dartmouth. In the game with the Alumni last Wednesday, it was this same twirler who pitched so effectively after the first inning for the graduates against the University nine.

Coach Mitchell announced several days ago that he planned to start his best pitcher against Yale in the first game. This means, these plans still hold true, that Barbee will be saved for the Tuesday game, and that the choice for the mound assignment against Dartmouth tomorrow will be made between Cutts and Booth with the odds favoring the former twirler.

Is Chance of Barbee Starting

The fact that Dartmouth has hung the Indian sign on the Crimson nine for so many years, however, makes a triumph over the Green much to be desired and it is possible that Coach Mitchell may alter his plans and start Barbee in the box tomorrow, and against Yale in the second game in Cambridge.

The line-up of the University team will not undergo any changes during the remainder of the season barring accidents. DeRham has definitely won the catching position over Chauncey, while both Tobin at first base and Ullman at second appear to be fixtures.

Squad Leaves Monday

Plans for the trip to New Haven call for the University squad to leave Monday afternoon for New Haven and spend the night at Choate School, Wallingford, Conn. The squad will remain at Choate or lunch and leave by bus for the field shortly after 12 o'clock. Following the game, the players will return to Boston, arriving about 11 o'clock.

After a short workout this afternoon, the members of the University squad will be the dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. C. L. Todd, the parents of the University captain at their home in South Lincoln.
