Harvard Overwhelms Tigers in Deciding Game of Series

Princeton, N. J., June 9--Harvard overwhelmingly defeated Princeton here-today, 10 to 1, in the deciding game of the series with the Tigers. While the Crimson nine was battering four Princeton pitchers for 13 hits, Barbee held the Orange and Black in complete submission until the ninth when a single run trickled across the plate after two questioned to decisions by the umpire. Only seven well scattered hits were made off him by Princeton batters.

The Crimson attack got under way in the first inning when Hendy started the game by walking Burns and Jones, Coach Jack Coombs thereupon retired him in favor of Goeltz in an effort to stave off a run. But Zarakov followed with a neatly placed sacrifice advancing the men to second and third. After Burns was nipped at the plate on Todd's grounder Tobir, who replaced Lord in the lineup at first base in a last minute shift, singled cleanly and Jones scored with the just fun.

DeRham Knocks Triple

For the next two innings both pitchers retired the batters without score, although Goeltz seemed a little wobbly. In the fourth, DeRham, whose heavy hitting was a feature of the contest, hit a triple far into the outfield, and scored a moment later on Sullivan's sacrifice fly. In the fifth, Zarakov singled with two out, stole second and scored on Todd's long drive which went for a single.

Kellogg, Tiger ace who pitched masterful ball against the Crimson in the first game of the series, but was found easy in the second, started the sixth inning on the mound for Princeton. He lasted just an inning and a half.

Sew Up Game in Seventh

The seventh frame saw the Crimson nine bat around the list and score five runs which put the game definitely away. A triple by Sullivan, singles by Barbee and Todd, a safe bunt by Burns, and a muffed bunt by Jones combined with an out by Zarakov to do the damage.

Two more unnecessary runs were made in the ninth while the disappointed Princeton rooters were kiling silently out of the stand. Rankin, who relieved Kellogg, weakened and passed Zarakov, who had been hitting the ball hard all afternoon. Tobin followed with another timely single and DeRham doubled, scoring both men. In the last half of the ninth the shut our Barbee deserved was spoiled when two hit batters reached first in succession after two men were out and a single sent one of them across.
