WATTERS SMASHES MARK AGAINST TECH RUNNERS

DISTANCE RUNNERS SHOW POWER AGAINST ENGINEERS

J. N. Watters '26 pulled away from Leness of M. I. T. on the home stretch of the half mile to win by six yards in the feature event of the track meet with the Engineers Saturday afternoon on the Tech cinders. The Crimson squad piled up a score of 153 to 72 in winning the meet.

Watters, running with the same power and ease which carried him to the I. C. A. A. A. A. championship two years ago, shattered the dual meet record of 1 minute 57 seconds by two-fifths of a second. The chief interest of the meeting centered in the performances of the Crimson stars who are expected to make a strong bid for the intercollegiate title this spring.

A. H. Miller '27 showed a brand of speed in the spurts which should put him up with the leaders in the Stadium finals on May 29. He ran a 100-yard dash in 10 seconds flat without any pressure. He then went out in the 220 trials and breezed away from the field in 22 2-5 seconds, but dropped out of the finals.

Coach Farrell's distance men were in for plenty of work, doubling up in almost every instance. They all did their work well, but none of them equalled the ease with which Captain Tibbetts went through his mile and two mile afternoon work-out. He placed almost at will, trailing E. C. Haggerty '27 and A. H. O'Neil '28 in that order in the mile.

C. A. Pratt '28, last year's Freshman star, continued to show promise of furnishing the Crimson's much needed power in the weight events.
