WRANGLERS MEET YALE TONIGHT ON EDUCATION ISSUE

This evening at 8.15 o'clock in Payne Hall the University debaters will meet the Yale team. This debate, which is one of the Harvard-Yale-Prinecton triangular series, marks the climax of the current season. The University will defend the negative of the question: "Resolved, That education is the curse of the present age", against the forensic art of the Eli affirmative team.

The University affirmative debaters who were to have travelled to Princeton tonight for the second of the triangular series have been forced to postpone their trip on account of the Princeton vacation and the late start the Princeton wranglers got in preparing for the debate.

Old Subject Changed

The subject originally assigned by the Eastern Debating League. "Resolved, That compulsory enrolment in the Reserve Officers' Training Corps should be abolished" was changed to the present one in accordance with the request of the Harvard, Yale, and Princeton debating councils for a question of lighter nature. The subject chosen is intended to furnish an opportunity for the play of wit as well as the use of logic and profound argument.

Seek to Emulate British

This plan is intentionally very like that of the Oxford debates in which the Keenness and humor of the debaters are as important as their mental profundity and ratiocinative powers. It is also believed that this system will be more enjoyable to both audience and the debaters.

The University negative team which will enter the lists tonight is composed of E. C. Sibley '28, D. S. Dickson '27, and I. J. Fain '27, with George Slaff '26, and A. F. Reel '28 as alternates. Of these Dickson is the only one who spoke in the triangular debates last year. The Yale team is composed of H. G. Rowell, H. H. Thomas, Basil Davenport, and H. G. Hayes, alternate.

Winter Is Chairman

The Chairman of the debate will be Professor Israel L. Winter, who is Professor Emeritus of Public Speaking at the University. The Judges have been chosen as follows: Professor C. Edmund Neil, Professor of Psychology of Speech at Boston University, Mr. Ernest J. King, of the Boston Transcript, and the Reverend W. R. Leslie, of the St. Mark's Methodist-Episcopal Church in Brookline.

Yate Was Champion Last Year

Last year Yale defeated both the University and Princeton. The debate was held in Cambridge where the audience upheld in Cambridge where the audience upheld the Harvard team, but the judges' vote favored the Eli orators two to one.

The debating team has shown great ability in its contests this year, the feature debate being that with Oxford last fall, which the University won by popular vote.

Will Award Coolidge Prize

The Coolidge prize of $100 for that member of the Harvard team who has shown the greatest ability in preparation for the debate will be awarded tonight. Last year the prize was won by D. W. Chapman '27, who is now President of the Debsting Council.

Debates are also being held tonight in the other two triangles which make up the Eastern League.
