The biggest early season objective of the University track team will be reached tonight when the Crimson representatives take the boards in the B. A. A. games at the Boston Arena at 7.45 o'clock. The two-mile relay race against Yale will be the feature of the meet as far as the University is concerned, but there will also be a one-mile race against M. I. T., a Freshman one-mile relay with Yale '29, and a strong Crimson flavor to the entries in other events.
Tibbetts Deserts Mile for Relay
Captain Tibbetts will lead his team by running in the two-mile relay against Yale instead of entering the Hunter mile as has previously been thought. The other five men from whom Coach Farrell will pick his three flyers to aid Tibbetts in downing the Blue are O'Neil, Kobes, Haggerty, Watters and Kane. Captain Norton of Yale will not run the relay as announced, but will devote himself to the dash. His team will consist of Berger, Laughlin, Terry, and either Evans, Scoville or Vorster.
In the one-mile event, M. I. T. will have an opportunity to avenge the defeat ad- ministered recently on Soldiers Field. Coach Faell will pick his team for this event from O'Rogers, Lundell, Kane, Dunn and Haggerty. The M. I. T. combination will probably consist of Captain Leness, Teagher, Smith, and Howlett. Captain Leness demonstrated his ability in the relays a month ago, and flashed real form when he defeated Helffrich, former Penn State champion, and Haggerty in the 600 yard run at the K. of C. games. Leness did not run at the Millrose games Thursday night.
Freshmen Also Face Elis
The Freshman baton men will face an exceptionally formidable Yale outfit, which will probably be made up of Nolan, Monroe, O'Brien and Paxton. Coach Farrell will choose four men from O'Connell, Ciernan, Smith, Tupper, Eulzman, and Deman to represent the Crimson first year men. The Dartmouth Freshman team which races the Harvard 1929 outfit in the triangular meet with Cornell at Dartmouth on February 27, will be seen in action in the Freshman Intercollegite one-mile race. The Green University teams will also be seen in action, racing against Brown and Syracuse.
Coach Farrel Lauds Miller
The big event of the evening, as far as the pubic goes will be the 40-yard dash for the Major Briggs trophy. It will combine the stars of all the sprint events in the K. of C. and Millrose A. A. games. Milland and Burns will try their luck against the collection of the world's greatest sprinters. Coach Farrell says of Miller's performance in New York Thursday night against a fair representation of these stars, "There was no daylight to be seen between Miller and Murchison at the finish of the dash at Madison Square Garden Thursday night. Murchison is the king of indoor sprinters and to Miller to finish second only to him raises Miller's merit."
Faculty telegraph service due to storm conditions was the cause of the errosous statement that Watters and Burns failed to place in their respective events Thursday. They were caught in Provdence in the clutches of the storm, and returned to Cambridge without competing.
Nine Champions Assault Dash Mark
Burn will leave the mark tonight with Miller and the other short distance men. Whether Murchison will run or not was still doubtful late yesterday, according to B. A. A. officials. However, prominent among the field of luminaries besides Miller and Burns, are Clark, Intercollegiate champion while at Johns Hopkins, Morton, the Yale captain, who has once defeated Miller, and once been defeated by him; Bowman, the erstwhile Syracuse flash; Hussey, the Boston College Freshman who has been defeated twice by Miller in the past week, but who has gained international fame by his speedy spurts; perhaps Murchison, most brilliant performer among indoor sprinters; Leconey, former Olympic star, now of the Meadowbrook Club; and Mittlesdorf of Colby.
Which six of the men mentioned in the event will make the final heat is a doubtful question. Clark and Norton are in one heat. Burns is bracketed with Mittlesdorf, while Miller has Smith of M. I. T. and Bowman in his group. Houben and Leconey are in the same heat, and Hussey stands out in the last list of names. Murchison has not been listed, but should he run, and break the thread ahead of the other contenders, it will be
