Dean Roscoe Pound of the Law School was the hero of an exciting episode in Kendall House yesterday noon. A short time before luncheon the Dean discovered the beginning of a conflagration on one of the upper stories of the building. After immediately telephoning the fire department, Dean Pound collected everyone in the building, and assisted in carrying out a large number of valuable law books. As soon as this was accomplished, he quietly sat down to lunch with the other members of the faculty, while the firemen were still extinguishing the flames above.
The fire, which did estimated damage of $5000 to the roof, is thought to have been caused by a defective chimney.
Kendall House, one of the older Law School buildings, is at present used chiefly as a dining room and for faculty meetings and seminars.
